Wellbeing Development Goals Initiative
The Wellbeing Development Goals Initiative is pioneered by the House of Rumi and The Hague Center for Global Governance, Innovation and Emergence and supported by Lord Stone of Blackheath at the House of Lords.
We act to elevate wellbeing systemically in the UK and globally.
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
– Rumi
Society is at risk of losing our moral code for civilization.
The Wellbeing Development Goals Initiative mandate is to safeguard, nourish and strengthen the universal values of humanity. To enable the conditions for virtues to be accessed, cultivated and harnessed for working, living and being. To act across all sectors (politics, finance, education, health, environment, technology and more) regionally, nationally and internationally in fulfilling this mandate.
Unique Capacities
Meshworking
Interweaving Feedback Loops
Identifying, interweaving and using feedback loops across the three pillars to zoom in and out and identify and act on leverage points and thereby amplify the work.
Context
Being close to and ahead of local, national and global contexts across multi sectors and industries and agile to respond and innovate.
Connection
Connections to government, key stakeholders and partnerships across wellbeing and other sectors - locally and globally.
Three Pillars
Research
Actioning, disseminating and integrating existing wellbeing research, commissioning and also conducting our own research.
Innovation
Prototyping and refining new practices, systems, tools, cultures, behaviours and further models to innovate wellbeing in society.
Support for existing work
Uplifting and connecting the work already taking place across wellbeing organisations.
Wellbeing Development
Our consultation and research phase brings together diverse groups to interrogate wellbeing and the values and virtues of humanity. From examining compassion, empathy, gratitude, mindfulness and courage to applying a taxonomy of wellbeing indicators within government, we act at the intersection of wellbeing, governance and community.
Interfaith Roundtable, House of Lords. Planned Autumn 2023
This roundtable convening spiritual and religious leaders across the House of Lords will explore key questions and shape possibilities in aligning and uplifting the behaviours, cultures and practices around the presence of virtues in society.
Local Government Roundtable, House of Lords. Planned Autumn 2023
This roundtable with key leaders from local government will reveal opportunities to tackle health inequality and will harvest fresh insights across Borough strategy, ways of working, community engagement and more to develop a plan for accelerating wellbeing in a local context.
Wellbeing Roundtable, House of Lords. October 2022
The Wellbeing Society Roundtable One convened the WDGs Initiative Steering Group and fifteen experts across wellbeing to together identify and share how we might enable a wellbeing society ecosystem to have profound and positive societal impact and together manifest wellbeing transformation at scale. The connections, sharings and leverage points accessed across this initial group anchor Wellbeing Development moving forwards.
Consultation, House of Lords. December 2022
We held a week of continuing consultation with groups of key stakeholders at the House of Lords around identifying pieces of the puzzle, what can support these pieces to flourish, identifying quick wins and added value through collaboration and exploring how we might enable breakthroughs through a creative process. We took into account UK ‘life conditions’ - political unrest, call for strikes, and selected the area of Politics from the Meshwork Map.
